Boudhanath is a Buddhist stupa in Kathmandu. Located about 11 km (6.8 mi) from the center at the northeastern outskirts of Kathmandu, the stupa’s massive mandala makes it one of the largest spherical stupas in Nepal. The ancient stupa was enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The influx of large populations of refugees from Tibet has induced the construction of over 50 Tibetan Gompas (Monasteries) around Boudhanath.
Patan Durbar Square:
Patan Durbar Square is situated at the center of Lalitpur. It is one of the three Durbar Squares in the Kathmandu Valley, all of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. One of its attractions is the ancient royal palace where the Malla Kings of Lalitpur resided. The Durbar Square is a marvel of Nepali medieval architecture. The Square floor is tiled with red bricks. The Square area is strewn with temples and idols. The main temples are aligned facing the western side of the Square. The entrance of the temples faces east, towards the palace. There is also a huge bell atop few steps beside the main temples. The Square also holds old Newari residential houses. There are various other temples and structures in and around Patan Durbar Square built by the Newa People.
Bhaktapur Durbar Square
Bhaktapur Durbar Square is an open plaza with the royal palace of old Bhaktapur Kingdom, 1400m above sea level. Also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is located in the current town of Bhaktapur, also known as Bhadgaon, which lies 13 km east of Kathmandu. While the complex consists of at least four distinct squares (Durbar Square, Taumadhi Square, Dattatreya Square and Pottery Square), the whole area is popularly known as the Bhaktapur Durbar Square and is a highly visited site in the Kathmandu Valley.
Changunarayan temple, a stunning Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Bishnu, has a history dating back to 4th century. The building itself was made in 7th century but many of the images found here have a longer history. Today we head from Mansarovar to explore Tarbouche (Yam Dwar) village which is approximately 50 km and takes around 2 hrs. Tarbouche, also known as “Yam Dwar” meaning “The Gateway of the God of Death”, is one of the most prominent destinations in the KailashManasarovarYatra. In Hindu religion, “Yama” is known as the God of Death and is primarily responsible for bringing the mortal souls to the heaven and deciding as well as acting upon their sins and virtues. The pilgrims commence their circumambulation of Mount Kailash right from Tarboche. The vehicle shall drop the travelers at Tarboche and from there they need to circumambulate Mount Kailash, which is equally venerated as the holiest pilgrimage site by Hindus, Buddhists, Jains and Bön-Pos. Tibetans regard this mountain as the manifestation of Mount Meru, “the navel of the earth” where founder of Bon religion, TonpaShenrab, is believed to have descended from heaven; Hindus as the abode of Lord Shiva; Buddhists as the abode of Samvara and Jains as a scared site where their prophet, Rishaba attained spiritual enlightenment.
